With two kids (and another on the way) it can be tough for me to find time in our week for a romantic date with my husband. If you’re like me and you feel much better when you have that time to reconnect with our romantic partner, it’s important to make the time somewhere.
Just like time though, our budget is also limited with house expenses, grocery bills, and sometimes kids can be expensive. My husband and I have to get creative when it comes to spending time together — sure a night out for dinner sans kids is fun, but let’s be honest it isn’t always budget friendly.
If you’re in the same situation as me and you’re wanting both time away without emptying your wallet, here are some tips and ideas to keep dating fun and within your budget.
1. Matinee movie
If you love movies and consider that a treat then hit up a matinee movie and skip the pricey movie theater treats. I always pack a snack in my purse and a matinee will save you about the price of one regularly scheduled movie ticket.
2. Do something active
Share similar hobbies? Carve out time to do what you love, together. Head off for an afternoon hike, run or bike. Spend time playing your favorite board or card game. Maybe you’re a DIY-er then working on a home project together may be just the foreplay you need!
3. Netflix it up!
Date nights that keep you on the couch are definitely budget friendly, nothing beats free! Save your DVR or Netflix shows for a date night in. Pop some popcorn or order your favorite takeout and indulge in the comfort and peace and quiet with your favorite person.
4. At-home spa
Overdue for a relaxing evening or day at the spa but can’t afford the pricey massages? Grab your favorite lotions, scented candles some yummy chocolate dipped fruits and pamper yourself at home. Take turns giving each other massages and finish it off with a relaxing bubble bath. Don’t forget the bubbly and for under $50 you have a great romantic night in.
5. Daydream
My husband and I love to dream together and when our wallets allow it we love to travel together. But these days we’re not going far from home. We love planning out our next vacation and dreaming of all the sights we’ll see and food we’ll eat. It’s a fun way to reconnect and talk about something other than children.
6. Search coupon sites for great deals
For other budget friendly dates and coupons sign up for deal sites like Groupon or Amazon Local Deals where you can buy deals or coupons for activities at a fraction of the retail cost. You’ll save money doing something you love or maybe couldn’t afford otherwise. Check your local newspaper or neighborhood bulletins for free movies in the park or any shows they may be offering in the area. Dating your spouse doesn’t have to be expensive or glitzy and glamorous–it simply needs to be meaningful to each of you.
